Welcome!
Welcome to the Parent Development Course
Who this course is for: This course was built for parents who are passionate about their child's sporting journey and want to play an active, informed, and genuinely helpful role in it but may not know exactly what that looks like in practice. Whether your child plays recreationally or competitively, this course will give you the understanding, the language, and the tools to support their development in ways that actually help.
What you will get from this course
- A clear understanding of your role in your child's sport experience and why it matters more than you might think.
- A deeper understanding of what is driving the decline in youth sport participation and what parents can do about it.
- Practical knowledge of the 5C development framework and how to use it to understand and support your child's growth.
- Concrete tools for setting expectations, communicating with coaches, managing your own reactions, and supporting your child through the highs and lows of sport.
- A certificate of completion and most importantly, a foundation for the kind of sport parenting that keeps children in sport for longer.
How the course is structured
Four modules. Each one builds on the last. You can complete them at your own pace and return to any section at any time.
A note before you begin
You are the most influential person in your child's relationship with sport. Not the coach. Not the club. You. The research on this is unambiguous a parent's behaviour before, during, and after their child's sport experience is the single strongest predictor of whether that child stays in sport or leaves it.
That is not pressure. It is an opportunity. This course is designed to help you make the most of it.
Informed and engaged parents are crucial for creating positive sport experiences. This is your opportunity to invest in your child's journey and in your own understanding of what quality sport actually looks like.
